It can all be a little overwhelming, the city may not be huge but the culture, activities, events, eateries etc. is vast. So we have taken it upon ourselves to amalgamate our local 12 years experience in the city via our blog. Whether you are planning on coming over for the festivals, want to find out vegan eats or general insider information, we will keep you in the loop.
Barcelona Insider – Barcelona Wedding
Seeing as today is officially the day of love we caught up with wedding planner Clare Doane from Barcelona Wedding to find out the team’s favorite things to do and see amongst other recommendations. Many people go ahead with weddings in Barcelona and just outside the city for it’s incredible gastronomy, scenic locations, stunning venues and climate. As Clare and her team work hard on ensuring that all details are arranged in order to create the best weddings possible for their clients it only makes sense that we pick their brains and discover their Barcelona.
Where is Barcelona Wedding based?
We actually have lived just up the coast from Barcelona in El Masnou, which has lovely beaches and great connections to Barcelona by both train and road. As most of our clients have destination weddings we don’t need to be based in the city – and many of the venues we work with are outside the city. Most wedding guests will be based in the city, and Barcelona Wedding often recommends apartments for families/ groups of friends or even the couple themselves.
What is your favorite place to go shopping for wedding props?
Barcelona wedding offers help & guidance in finding wedding dresses, mother of the bride outfits, accessories for weddings and much much more. This year it seems that brides are wanting to add a vintage touch to their day. In December we had fun shopping with clients from New York, looking for vintage inspiration, in MercAntic, just outside Barcelona in Sant Cugat. We had a great day haggling for 60 antique keys ( for original favours), an antique ink well and quill, ( for the guest book) and some original lovely glasses too.
Where’s your favorite restaurant to take clients in Barcelona?
Our clients are often attracted to Barcelona by the cusine that the city boasts, and we always try to incorporate a lunch/ dinner break in a place that they might not find themselves, or a place that gives them a true authentic feel without costing them a fortune. The restaurant chosen will depend on the clients and the locations that we will be in viewing venues or meeting suppliers, but we always try to find great spots for clients to have lunch! A few popular places include: La Singular in Gracia and En Ville Barcelona in Raval. An excellent place for a gourmet or romantic meal, at the fraction of the cost of a usual tasting menu is Restaurant Osmosis and La Santa outside of Barcelona, in El Masnou is also a great place to take clients.
Best place to have a drink and meet clients in Barcelona?
If clients want to meet for a quick meeting in Barcelona we will often go to their hotel/ apartment – but a good central place to meet, with Wi-Fi, that has drinks and the Entrance hall of the Palau de la Música is very impressive.
Where is the most inspiring place in Barcelona?
Barcelona has so much variety, and so much to offer – That is a very difficult question to answer. I recently revisited the Sagrada Família, which was extremely inspiring, if I was a little saddened by the simple inexcusable English translations on many of the signs there.
Favorite place for tapas?
I love Quimet & Quimet on Carrer del Poeta Cabanyes, 25
Where is the best place for brides to get ready & be beautified in Barcelona?
When it comes to nails I recommend Pink Peony in Passeig de Gràcia, a nail bar Barcelona where there is plenty of space for the bridal party to have their nails done together the day prior to the wedding. For the hair & make up, we tend to really recommend the bride stays in an apartment where there is always so much more room that a hotel, and we get the hair & make up person to go straight to them!
Where is the best place to beach?
For me the beaches both up and down the coast are much nicer than the beaches of Barceloan which are always overcrowded – Ocata is probably the best easily accessible beach from Barcelona, but anything further away such as San Pol de Mar, or Santa Cristina is always worth the drive!
What is your favorite building in Barcelona?
I think I am drawn to the Gothic architecture – Santa María del Mar is amazing, but I do love the modernist stuff too, especially the Palau de la Música (which I really recommend going to a concert at), and of course Gaudi especially Casa Battló, which can also be rented as a wedding venue.
What does Barcelona have to offer as a wedding destination?
Barcelona offers so much to people looking for a fabulous wedding location – incredible venues , great & varied accommodation options, good travel connections, wonderful food & wine all topped off with a lovely sunny climate. Barcelona is also a creative vibrant city with talented photographers, musicians and of course wedding planners to make sure no detail is overlooked for their special day!
UPDATE - Barcelona Wedding is now UK bound. Petra Wolf Duffy has founded PearlSandals, a Barcelona wedding and events planning business dedicated English, Spanish, Catalan, Russian, German and Scandinavian speakers intending to plan a special event in Catalonia.
