It can all be a little overwhelming, the city may not be huge but the culture, activities, events, eateries etc. is vast. So we have taken it upon ourselves to amalgamate our local 12 years experience in the city via our blog. Whether you are planning on coming over for the festivals, want to find out vegan eats or general insider information, we will keep you in the loop.
Bar Tales – The kitsch Sor Rita
Bar Sor Rita
Sor Rita is a colorful and incredibly tacky bar that makes kitsch look meek and shy. Honestly, if you are easily offended this place might not be the one for you. The bar itself displays elements of an altar juxtaposed with a stripper’s dressing room – think leopard and zebra prints strung across the wall and religious icons along with Hollywood stars. The bar takes inspiration from films such as Dark Habits and All About My Mother, with founders Cecilia and José going full wham!
It is almost like being at your religious grandma’s with all the trinkets of framed patrons and religious figures, until you see the barbie dolls in Karma Sutra positions and sexy shoes decorating the ceiling of the bar- a reminder of something that grandma probably wouldn’t approve of. So why come here? Well they actually do good cocktails, my favorite is the Kika which consists of cava, passion fruit, grapefruit and strawberry liqueur. They are also known for hosting events such as vintage market Mercadillo 1 2 3, amongst others.
