What comes to mind when you see guacadog, piña dog, mush dog, basil dog and green dog? If you answered- simple yet cool hot dog joint in Raval, you are right! These are just some of the variety of hotdogs served up at, The Dog Is Hot on Calle Joaquín Costa, Barcelona. When walking along the street it is hard not to notice the takeaway place as the bold graffiti on the exterior certainly makes an impression.
It is amusing living in a city like Barcelona, famous for it’s influx of tourism, just how quick it is to identify a tourist or as they say here “guiri”. This has taken the form of incessant bloggers, travel enthusiasts and amateur photographers out and about with the latest Canon camera, fixated on capturing every single moment. The digital age with its social media and fascination with sharing in real time, has transformed the world of capturing the moment – which makes it even easier to identify the tourist. One has to then consider, just how much time is actually lost in the grand mission of collecting.
Tomorrow sees the inauguration of the highly anticipated new Apple store in Plaça de Catalunya, Barcelona. The building that Apple will occupy, based on Passeig de Gracia, was formerly the headquarters of illegal communist organization Partit Socialista Unificat de Catalunya during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930′s.
MUTT Bookshop & Art Gallery was opened in late 2010 by Juanjo Fernandes, an active and well connected individual that wanted to offer more than books. Located in El Born neighborhood – the store is innovative and inspiring with art work beautifully mounted on the walls with a variety of literature dedicated to art, design and urban art decorating the space and presented as art itself. The balance between art, social and education is what makes this place an incredible hub for the creative types.
If like us you have a penchant for Nordic design, Estilo Nordico the distributor for Nordic interior brands, has a small furniture and decoration store that you must visit. The location says it all, as it is quaintly placed on C/Zaragoza in the upscale Sant Gervasi area and is just 5 minutes walk from our favorite Thai restaurant El Petit Bangkok. Bursting with an abundance of brands such as House Doctor, Affari there is an array of products to choose from.
El Petit Bangkok is a cute restaurant nestled in the tiny streets near Plaza Molina, offering authentic Thai cuisine. The owner is Catalan and his wife is Thai and they welcome you in to a beautiful establishment with colourful lampshades, photos, bird and floral wallpaper and decadent fixtures.Originally set up as a cafe, due to public demand they decided to expand and operate as a restaurant.
We had the pleasure of attending the Celia Vela show “…y un vestido esmeralda”, at 080 Barcelona yesterday – one of the key fashion events in Barcelona, showcasing some of the best design talent in the city. This edition was superbly staged at Palau de Pedralbes and served as a magical backdrop for the catwalk that was centered around the fountain. The marquees were brimmed with Catalan press, the fashion pack and up and coming designers so the musing around the gardens was of course inspirational.
Its that time again, fashion, street style, shopping, events, and more at The Brandery Summer edition on July 13th. The three day event takes place over at Fira at Placa Espanya just by Montjuïc, action packed with the opportunity to network with business owners, enter design competitions and a cool place to chill out and have a cocktail- making it the perfect place to shop, mingle and be entertained.
