It can all be a little overwhelming, the city may not be huge but the culture, activities, events, eateries etc. is vast. So we have taken it upon ourselves to amalgamate our local 12 years experience in the city via our blog. Whether you are planning on coming over for the festivals, want to find out vegan eats or general insider information, we will keep you in the loop.
At the top end of Eixample district there is a shop that is like no other. It was originally a private garage, and inside you can clearly make out the ramps and large spaces where cars would have pulled in to sleep for the night. But with walls now bathed in white and hung with exquisite handmade rugs it has been completely transformed, and has the appearance of a hyper-stylised carpet bazaar, like one you would see in Marrakech or Istanbul, without the dust and pushy traders. This is the world of Nani Marquina, one of Barcelona’s most prolific and acclaimed designers.
Barcelona’s Jaime Beriestain is not your ordinary concept store and cafe, in fact, it is rather exciting as there is nothing else remotely like it. Imagine buying yourself some new design items for your pad, fresh flowers from the floristeria, flown in from Holland and then stopping by for lunch before heading back out. This is exactly what you can do here. The café / restaurant offers breakfast, brunch and dinner.
Looking for a tour guide in Barcelona with a difference? Want to discover interior design, base your tour on boutiques, culture or perhaps focus on gastronomy? If yes, The Treasures is the ideal company for your choice. Set up by Carolina Carassco and Marianne Krauss (both extensive travelers), the boutique styled private walking tour company is based on unvealing the beautiful hidden gems in the city, ensuring that you are guaranteed to get to know Barcelona beneath the surface. We took a tour with The Treasures to discover their favorite haunts in Barcelona city – well if their’ tour grabbed the attention of The Cool Hunter, we clearly have to pay attention.
If like us you have a penchant for Nordic design, Estilo Nordico the distributor for Nordic interior brands, has a small furniture and decoration store that you must visit. The location says it all, as it is quaintly placed on Carrer Zaragoza in the upscale Sant Gervasi area and is just 5 minutes walk from our favorite Thai restaurant El Petit Bangkok. Bursting with an abundance of brands such as House Doctor, Affari there is an array of products to choose from.
