About the area: Barrio Gotico, next to Plaça Catalunya
Just around the corner of Plaça Catalunya, Barcelona's central square at the north end of Las Ramblas, between one of the city's main shopping streets Portal de l'Angel and Via Laietana, you will encounter a quiet, pedestrian street with the apartment Molas. The apartment is as centrally located as one can wish for in the medieval part of town, called Barri Gotic or Barrio Gotico (in Castilian).
Barri Gotic is the oldest part of the city and is the settling site chosen by the Romans during the Augustus Empire (27 to 14 B.C.). It is a dense area with numerous winding streets full of historic and artistic landmarks. Las Ramblas with its street vendors, living statues, bird sellers and flower stalls is very close by, just as the Plaa Reial with its bars and restaurants and the fresh food market La Boqueria.
Northeast of the famous Las Ramblas promenade, The Passeig de Gracia offers an abundance of upscale fashion shops and department stores and this is where you encounter the most famous Gaudi buildings La Pedrera and Casa Battló. The apartment is in a very central, yet quiet location, making it an ideal base to explore the city.
