Bobby Gin

“El gintonic perfecto no existe” (‘The perfect gin tonic does not exist,’ ) reads a cheeky slogan on the wall of this elegant bar in Gracia. We would argue that at this popular watering hole, the bartenders certainly come close to achieving perfection. With an extensive knowledge of gins, the friendly barmen here work like some kind of apothecaries to create a mind-boggling array of gin and tonics. The menu features small plates, tapas and burgers to accompany your pre-dinner drink or make an evening of it here.

Paradiso

Located behind the walls of a pastrami sandwich shop in El Born, Paradiso is something of a (badly kept) local secret. Having recently made the ‘One to Watch’ in the World’s 50 Best Bars guide, it probably won’t stay that way for too long. There’s a big fridge on the right of the pastrami shop. Open the door, walk in and emerge into a 1940s-style speakeasy. Alongside its impressive gin list, the bar is famous for its creative cocktails like prohibition-era style ‘The Great Gatsby’ or ‘The Mediterranean Treasure’ (Winner of the World Class Cocktail Prize in 2014).

La Confiteria

Located in a former candy shop in Poble Sec, La Confiteria is a magical place to have a drink as well as being one of Barcelona’s best gin bars. Featuring art deco style wooden finishes, stained glass and mirrors, it’s a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Bartenders work like magicians here as they whip up an imaginative selection of cocktails. For something different, try the Confipunch with Sipsmith Gin, Campari, Raspberry Water, Oleo Saccharum, lemon and crystallised ginger or the Alice in Wonderland gin cocktail served in a teapot!

Xix Bar

Mike Cruickshank, Scotsman by birth, quickly adopted Barcelona as his home and has certainly made his mark on the local bar scene. He takes his gins very seriously and is the brains behind Xixi Bar in Poble Sec. Passionate about educating people about gin’s history and culture, he stocks an impressive selection of gins available at its corner shop as well as specialist G&T tasting courses. Formally a DJ, Mike knows a thing or two about how to get a party started so the music here is always great. An essential stop on the Barcelona Best Gin Bars route!

Bar Brutal / Can Cisa

Bar Brutal is one of the best places to sample organic wines in Barcelona. Owned by twin brothers Max and Stefano Colombo (Restaurant Xemei and Restaurant Frankie Gallo Cha Cha Cha, amongst others), Bar Brutal’s wines use biodynamically grown grapes and no added sulphites so everything is 100% natural (or brutal as its referred to here). The decor is delightfully eccentric and staff are highly knowledgeable about the selection of wines on the menu. Pull up a chair at one of the rustic wooden tables and pore over their menu of Mediterranean sharing plates such as the Burrata with trout roe and rocket oil, Duck Egg with cauliflower foam and mushroom or Red tuna with confit onions and slow-cooked leeks.

Dr Stravinsky

Dr. Stravinsky is the brainchild of Lito and Enric (who also run La Confiteria, Alegria, El Maravillas and El Paradiso), brilliant mixologists who know a thing or two about creating great cocktails. They don’t use artificial drink mixers and make their own tonic water, kombucha and kefir, which they flavour with natural ingredients. The interior design is fantastic – like some sort of magical alchemist’s laboratory. Downstairs the walls are lined with jars with herbs inside that are lit from behind which they make their essential oils from. Upstairs is filled with conical flasks and other scientific oddities. Barman Antonio Naranjo mixes up incredible drinks – try the Camp Nou – made with a syrup of dill, thyme and coriander, house-distilled gin, lime and camomile.

Boca Chica

Boca Chica is a gorgeous bar located above the restaurant Boca Grande in the heart of Eixample. Gorgeous interior design which features dark weathered wood, plush seating and beautiful lighting as well as its extensive list of signature cocktail make this one of the coolest bars in Barcelona. The unisex bathrooms feature a dazzling display of mirrors and there’s also a terrace for smokers in summer.

This gorgeous little bar is run by the owners of La Pepita, located a few doors down. It’s an intimate space with a bustling atmosphere. They specialise in traditional authentic tapas- try the preserves (high quality tinned seafood) as well as Ceviche or the Beef Carpaccio. They also do great wines, cavas and vermouths.

If you love wine, Monvinic will be your Eden. This micro-universe dedicated to the fruit of the vine opened in July 2008, after 5 years in the making. The kitchen offers creative Catalan cuisine with superb dishes and knowledgeable wait staff to suggest the perfect pairings. It’s also a great place to go for a glass of wine and a gourmet tapa. Slow Cocteleria

Els Sortidors del Parlament

If you get hungry and in the area of Sant Antoni – Poble Sec, head over to Els Sortidors del Parlament This place was previously a mechanic’s workshop but has been transformed into a bodega that offers quality food, including Catalan specialties and conserves. Here you will find a wide variety of beers from all over the world, with the owners previously working in import and export of beer in the hospitality trade – they know their stuff. You can enjoy a pica pica by the barrels or on the long shared tables at the back. Spoil your palate with Galician shellfish, cured meat, delicious cheeses and more. This place is great for a quality ‘pica pica’, Catalan and international wines and a warm and welcoming atmosphere in a buzzing neighborhood. Rather busy on the weekends but we like to think that’s all a part of the fun.

L’Ascensor

This gorgeous little Barri Gòtic cocktail bar gets its name (“The Elevator”) because the entrance is via a rickety old fashioned wooden lift. The lighting is just the right side of dim and the mostly wooden decor lends a cozy and intimate atmosphere. Located in the labyrinthine Gòtic barrio, it is slightly hard to find, making it usually packed with locals rather than tourists. The Tanqueray G&T here is to incredible, but there is also an impressive list of imported and local gins, wines, cavas and beers.

El Vaso De Oro

If you love beer, you’ll be glad to hear that this place brews their very own. It is another authentic bar, loud, busy but entertaining, a good place to start your evening. You can find the usual tapas but they also do solomillo con foie (beef filet with duck liver pate), which is delicious. Dishes are prepared with locally sourced ingredients, chosen daily and personally. Close to Barceloneta station and approximately 10 minutes walk from the beach.
